Cabrito Kid Goat Meat

Welcome to Allens Of Mayfair Goat Meat.
At Allens we do not breed goats. We take the billies from the dairy industry helping to end the industry practice of culling at birth. Excellent animal welfare practices are essential for an excellent final product. We have farms across the South West raising billies for us, operating to the highest welfare standards.
Our Kids are fed on a diet of milk powder until weaned, then ad lib creep and straw. Slaughtered after 6-7 months, the meat on these young animals retains the milky hew of veal whist having excellent conformation. The finished carcasses kill out around 15 kilos and have the look of a game animal rather than anything farmed.
Goat meat is low in fat. With only 2 grams of fat and 1 gram of saturated fatcompared to the leaner beef cuts at 5 grams and 2 grams and 4 grams - and 1.5 grams with pork. It is low in cholesterol with 57 mgs per serving compared to lean beef and pork having between 59 and 63 mg. Having twice as much iron as beef and being high in potassium; goat is an exceptionally healthy choice.

Goat is eaten in Africa and all over the Caribbean, but most Americans cringe when you mention eating goat meat. Well, they are missing out because like lamb, goat has a pleasant, slightly pungent, flavor that is best brought out by grilling the meat slowly at low temperatures. Similar to preparing lamb, don't be shy with the herbs and seasonings because the flavor of goat stands up well to heavy seasonings and marinades.
